Weathervane Wednesday ~ A Horse and Sulky

This is part of an on-going series of photographs of weather vanes in the Nutfield, New Hampshire area (formerly Derry, Londonderry and parts of Hudson, Windham and Manchester).  Some of the weather vanes are historical, some are whimsical, and all are interesting.

Do you know the location of weather vane #40?   Scroll down to the bottom to see the answer!

This traditional looking horse and sulky weather vane is very intricate, but not at all historical.  It is located on top of the cupola above the Capri Pizza at 33 Indian Rock Road in Windham, New Hampshire.  It has more detail than most modern weather vanes.  Although most of the businesses on Indian Rock Road have cupolas, the only other one with a weather vane is the Shaw's supermarket - which has two!

This weather vane might be a subtle nod to the sulky racing which used to happen at the Rockingham Race Track down the road in Salem, New Hampshire.  One of our neighbors used to race pace horses for the track, and rode his sulky up and down our road.  I miss that very much.  I don't think there is much live horse racing going on at Rockingham anymore, it is all video betting.

  1. This is one of my favorite weather vanes you have posted. Maybe because I love horses and this one is unique.
