1956 - María Josefa's English Class in Madrid, Spain

These photographs are from my mother-in-law's photo album in Madrid, Spain.  She took classes in English in 1956, and her teacher was Miss Sloan, an American.

That is my mother-in-law, Maria Josefa, on the right, shaking hands with her English teacher on the left side of this photo.  She has many fond memories of Miss Sloan, who was very kind and once invited her home to dinner. Maria was not pleased when the beverage at dinner was milk instead of wine.  She now has beautiful English skills, so Miss Sloan must have been an excellent teacher.  In 1956 Maria never would have guessed that someday she would move to the United States and become a US citizen!

I'm very lucky because my mother-in-law has always labeled all her photos.  She has many like this, with all the names on the back.  This one is very cute, with all the names labeled "Mister" or "Mistress"  My mother-in-law is #6, and Miss Sloan, the teacher, is #1.
